2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger: The Electric Pickup Redefined

The electric full-size pickup truck is no longer a new idea – models like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and GMC Sierra EV deliver impressive performance with proper hauling and towing capability. But with a full load and a trailer behind, the range of these trucks can drop dramatically, and finding a public charger with space for a trailer is almost impossible, making these options nonviable for many truck buyers. But what if you could take your electric truck to a gas station and fill it up like a non-EV? That’s precisely what the new Ram 1500 Ramcharger can do – read on to see how it works.

The new Ram 1500 Ramcharger features dual electric drive modules (EDM) – 335 horsepower up front and 332 at the rear – for a total output of 647 horsepower and 615 lb-ft pounds of torque. But wait, there’s more. The Ramcharger also has a 271-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 under the hood, but this motor’s sole purpose is to act as an onboard generator that puts out a steady 130 kW to charge the battery or send power directly to the EDMs. The wheels are only driven by the electric motors, which can pull energy from the battery, generator, or both simultaneously.

With this unique setup, you can plug in the Ramcharger – a full charge will take around eight hours on a Level 2 charger (an easy overnight task on a home charger), with a DC fast charger taking about 45 minutes to get the battery from 20-80 percent. With a full charge to its 92 kWh battery, the Ramcharger can travel an estimated 145 miles. Once the battery is depleted, the generator kicks in, and with a full tank of fuel, it will provide enough electricity for another 545 miles. At that point, you can fill it up at a gas station like any other truck or plug it in.

With the instant power and torque delivery that comes with an electric powertrain, the half-ton Ramcharger can sprint to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds. As exciting as that might be, most shoppers don’t buy a truck to take it to the dragstrip – luckily, the Ramcharger has other skills. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 14,000 pounds – that’s a rather sizeable boat or travel trailer – and it can perform this feat even if the battery is depleted. It can also handle an expected 2,625 pounds in its 5’ 7” cargo bed. With that maximum 14,000-pound towing load, the Ramcharger can manage 39 miles before the generator needs to provide supplemental power.

With active four-corner air suspension, the new Ramcharger boasts up to nine inches of ground clearance. With the excellent power control inherent in an electric powertrain and the available electronic locking rear differential, the truck should perform quite well off-road.

Ramcharger drivers can choose how to use the power at their disposal. Selecting Electric+ mode keeps the generator off, and the truck relies solely on the energy in the battery. No matter the load, the truck will keep the internal combustion engine (ICE) turned off until the battery has no usable charge. If the planned route has a steep incline and you’re towing a trailer, you can select E-SAVE to preserve battery power so maximum output can be used when needed.

With the ability to put out substantial electric power, the Ramcharger can act as a portable generator. A 240-watt twist plug in the truck bed can deliver 7.2 kW, and two standard household outlets can each put out 2.4 kW. Not only can this create the ultimate tailgate party with the power to run everything from a smoker to a big-screen TV, but it can also power the typical house for more than a week in the event of an extended power outage.

“With unlimited battery-electric range, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is the pinnacle of the light-duty pickup truck segment and the ultimate electric truck,” said Tim Kuniskis, Ram brand CEO – Stellantis. “The new Ramcharger is a beast of a light duty – 647 horsepower, 615 lb.-ft of torque, 4-second 0-60 mph, 14,000 lbs. of towing… and zero need for a public charger.”

At first glance, the 2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger looks very much like its gas-powered sibling, but there are some subtle differences. The unique body-color front fascia combines with the bold grille adorned by an illuminated light bar and modernized RAM badge to help the Ramcharger stand out from the rest of the lineup. The 1500 badge on the side of the hood carries the Ramcharger name, and there’s an electric charging port on the front left fender.

Ramcharger gets a newly styled rear, enhanced by the wrap-around LED taillights that flow into the power-operated tailgate. The same modern-looking RAM logo stands out in the center of the tailgate, and there are no exhaust outlets in the bumper.
