OVERVIEW:

When reviewing the Ford Bronco Raptor recently, we referenced it as being a cross between Jurassic Park and the bucking bronco Old West. If that was truly the case, then the Ford F-150 Raptor R SuiperCrew qualifies for the Jurassic World title with the same heart and soul, but with heightened utility.

Raptors are considered predators and the F-150 Raptor R fills the bill with outstanding credentials. Instead of a Velociraptor it is more on the order of a T-Rex. It comes in the form of a four door, five passenger Super Crew Cab pickup with a 145-inch plus wheelbase and a 5.5-foot bed. It rides on oversized beadlocked rubber mounted on alloy wheels and its power source is awesome.

AS TESTED:

My test T-Rex (sorry, I mean F-150 Raptor R) began with a base sticker of $75, 775. But wait, there’s more – add $31,575 for Equipment Group 802A, $2,195 for the Moonroof and Power tailgate, $595 for the spray-in bedliner and $1,795 for the Destination and Delivery fee and you wind up with a $111,935. Price tag before tax and license.

The exterior sported an Azure Gray metallic finish with the Raptor R graphics, while the cabin was finished off in Recaro Black leather and a carbon fiber trim treatment.

ENERGY SOURCE:

Powering this beast of burden is a 5.2-liter supercharged and intercooled DOHC, 32-valve V8 with port fuel injection. Horsepower is 700 at 6,650 rpm and the torque rating is 640 lb-ft at 4,250. Motive force reaches the traveled surface, be it sand, mud or pavement, via an electronic 10-speed automatic transmission which may be routed to all four wheels.

Fuel economy is10 mpg city, 15 mpg highway and 12 mpg combined. 0-60 mph can be clicked off in 3.6 seconds – not bad for a truck that tips the scale at more than 6,000 pounds.

CABIN COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE:

RUGGED DESIGN:

F150-RInt.jpgF150-Gte-Opn.jpg

The Ford F-150 Raptor showcases a seriously bold and brawny form that touts its intended purpose. It’s may not be sleek or sexy, but its functionality and rugged persona are alluring.

WARRANTY COVERAGE:

A limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles and the powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles with Roadside Assist.

OUR FINAL TAKE:

Bottom line, the Ford F-150 Raptor Raptor was designed and constructed to compete formidably in off-road prowess, and it does that incredibly well rising to virtually every challenge that is thrown its way. It actually seems smoother off-road than on. It adds the functionality of hauling cargo loads as well.

If you’re a truck person and need useful versatility but enjoy off-road fun and adventure, the Ford F-150 Raptor R SuperCrew 4×4 pickup is an awesome choice, though it’s price tag is unquestionably on the lofty side of most budgets.
