Aston Martin builds some of the most beautiful high-performance vehicles available. Models like the DB12, Vantage, and DBX are immediate attention-getters, as they should be, and they are an absolute delight to drive. While these models don’t sell in large numbers, Aston Martin will periodically introduce a very limited special edition vehicle available for just a few lucky customers. The latest of these exclusive vehicles is the track-focused Aston Martin Valiant.

About a year ago, Aston Martin revealed the last limited-edition model, the Valour. Only 110 lucky customers had the opportunity to purchase this unique sports car, which was built to celebrate the iconic brand’s 110th anniversary. The Valour inspired a personal commission of a lightweight, more extreme version created for Aston Martin’s legendary F1 race car driver, Fernando Alonso. That car is the Valiant.

“Valour was a spectacular celebration of Aston Martin’s 110th anniversary, and stirred me to create a more extreme, race car inspired version that was track focussed, while also delivering a thrilling drive on-road,” said Alonso. “Valiant is born from my passion for driving at the limit and I have enjoyed working closely with the Q by Aston Martin team on both the design and technical specification and believe we have created a masterpiece.”

At the heart of the Aston Martin Valour is the company’s 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that puts out 735 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. For the ultimate engagement, the V12 is teamed with a 6-speed manual gearbox, sending power to the rear wheels.

Valour is developed to deliver excellent performance on the track while remaining legal for street use. In addition to the monstrous power served up by the big V12 engine, the Valour uses a 3D-printed rear subframe, which saves weight without compromising stiffness. Additional weight savings techniques include a magnesium torque tube, which reduces mass at the center of the car by 8.6 kg (19 pounds) as well as the use of a lithium-ion battery to save a further 11.5 kg (25 pounds).

Adding style while reducing unsprung mass are the lightweight 21-inch magnesium wheels, which also improve steering response and wheel control. Massive carbon-ceramic brakes provide excellent stopping power designed to stay strong, even after a day at the track.

Further separating the Valour from any other vehicle on the road is the use of Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) dampers. This system can adjust each damper in less than six milliseconds, providing a state-of-the-art suspension with almost infinite flexibility, creating optimal ride and handling characteristics.

The Valour is absolutely stunning, standing out clearly as something special. Up front, a bold, clean carbon fiber grille spans the width of the car. Large, round LED headlights are set back into the bodywork, giving the Aston a distinctive look at night. The deep front splitter adds downforce, while upright planes at the edges guide the air around the front wheels. Additional air vents are integrated into the boldly sculpted hood.

The Silhouette of the Valour has all the right proportions for a proper sports car, showcasing a long hood, raked windshield, and roofline that smoothly runs to the rear of the car. Bold side fenders are sculpted around the 21-inch magnesium wheels that stand out with their carbon fiber aero discs. Air flows from the front wheel through a vent ahead of the door, while the broad side sills while small vortex generators positioned ahead of the rear wheels reduce turbulence, drag, and lift.

The rear of the Valour is all business, with a large fixed wing and a sharply angled deck lid. A bold rear fascia in carbon fiber frames the quad exhaust outlets that broadcast the lovely roar of that V12. The clamshell hatch features a hinged rear screen panel that allows access to the cargo area, which Aston points out would be ideal for storing race helmets.

“Valiant is a modern masterpiece,” said Marco Mattiacci, Global Chief Brand and Commercial Officer of Aston Martin. “A creation of Q by Aston Martin, inspired by a racing legend and conceived using the latest F1® inspired technology, exotic materials, and obsessive weight reduction. It focusses on placing the driver in a truly unique, intense and emotional driving experience. The ultimate blend of performance, track-focused dynamics and hypercar intensity, Valiant embodies Aston Martin’s determined commitment to build rare and extraordinary cars for true drivers”.

Inside the Valiant, passengers will find a combination of soft upholstery and satin-finish carbon fiber, bringing a high level of elegance to the cabin. With seating for just two, the Valiant features stylish Recaro Podium seats that deliver outstanding lateral and shoulder support with properly placed padding for added comfort on longer drives. A half-cage is built in, reinforcing the track-ready role of the Valiant.

Valiant has a new steering wheel that is unique to this exclusive vehicle. Unlike many newer models, the three-spoke wheel features a clean design devoid of controls and buttons.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of the cabin is the manual gearbox. The transmission tunnel is cut away to showcase the shifter’s gear linkage and mechanical workings.

The Valiant will be shown to the public for the first time next month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Expect one of its hill-climb runs to be performed by its first customer – Fernando Alonso. Only 38 copies will be built, and while pricing hasn’t been announced, expect the cost to exceed $2.5 million.
