Electric Wave: Utility-vehicle // the 2023 Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic

As the auto industry shifts towards electric vehicles, other industries are also looking to reshape how they develop their powertrains. Motorcycle manufacturers have been in the electric game, and companies that make side-by-sides, like Polaris, are moving towards electric.

The Auto industry is going electric, the Motorcycle industry is going electric, and now the side-by-side market is going electric. The Polaris Ranger is one of the top-selling side-by-side, used for working on the ranch or the farm. Especially with stats like 1,250 lb. box capacity & 2,500 lb. towing capacity. Let the Polaris do the heavy lifting.
Polaris has integrated an electric powertrain into the utility vehicle, and they have teamed up with Zero Motorcycles to create the new powertrain for the Ranger. Zero Motorcycles is widely recognized as the first electric motorcycle brand, and they’re providing the power train for this side-by-side.

The powertrain for the Ranger is tucked away under the cockpit and runs the length of the vehicle. But given this is meant for off-road purposes, a full-length rock guard protects the batteries from damage and, most importantly, water. Which shouldn’t be too much of a problem as it’s coupled with 14 inches of ground clearance. You’ll also get some fun stuff like DC outlets, dual USB ports, and a cargo box located 12v SAE port with an in-dash on/off switch.
The Polaris XP Kinetics’ new powertrain allows the company to reach new audiences as it’s available for the consumer but is also being used by the military as well. This will change the game for them. Being all-electric means it is quiet and quiet means stealthy. One of the key advantages is you get up to 45 miles on the smaller battery of range. You can increase that, but the average consumer only commutes 37 miles from home to work and back.

The Ranger is offered two battery options. The Ranger XP Kinetic premium has a 14.9 kWh lithium-ion battery with up to 45 miles of range, while the ultimate version features a 29.8 kWh lithium-ion battery that can deliver up to 80 miles of range on a single charge. Regarding charge times, the premium can do as quick as 5 hours on a 240v outlet, double that time for a 120v. The ultimate will do four hours with the 240v; however, both are fitted for a wall box Pulsar Plus accessory. This will trim the charging down on the 240v from the premium’s five hours to three. And the ultimate from four hours to three and a half.
The price of the Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic is $24,999 and is available to pre-order at specific Power Sports dealerships nationwide.
